Camp Claire Website

Best. Summer. Ever.

Located on picturesque Hamburg Cove, Camp Claire is a summer staple in the Lyme, Connecticut community (for over 100 years!) that encourages personal growth, independence, confidence and maturity in social skills… and most importantly, FUN.

Project Goals

With a relationship that started in a social media project, the Camp Claire board came back to the Julia Balfour team for a fresh, easy-to-use, functional website that looks like what going to camp feels like.

What We Did:

Design

Using the color palette created from our previous social media partnership, the Julia Balfour creative team aimed to bring summer camp to homes across the country. A fun and chunky slab serif brought a modern take to that classic camp feel, and paired with our subdued green, orange, cream, and blues. Whimsical icons brought some illustration to the design, while resembling the feel of those quintessential directional camp signs. Textures of the earth rounded out Camp Claire’s design system, complementing our energetic camp action shots. The team also made sure to incorporate waves in buttons and hover states to pay homage to the camp’s prominent Hamburg Cove backdrop.

Countdown to Summer

Special Technologies

One of the most important requests from the client was to have a countdown to the first day of camp. After weighing different options like a completely customized functionality vs. an API plug-in, the team chose to use a countdown plug-in that could be branded to the Camp Claire aesthetic. The Countdown to Summer row can be found on every single page in the site — even you’re excited for it to hit zero, right?
